The HD-28...there is nothing else like it. The Hugo Helmer guys were great, and I could tell right away that the HD-28 was going to be something special. The intonation is perfect all the way up the neck, the finish is flawless, and the subtle construction details like the herringbone binding and the snowflake position markers are wonderful, but all that pales in comparison to the voice of this guitar -- it is loud, it is well balanced, and it is incredibly rich. The guitar is fairly expensive compared to some of the other makes and models, but there is no question that it is worth it. I've had this guitar for several months now, and it continues to grow on me. I can't put it down -- it constantly makes me want to play and to want to play better. That was the surprising thing for me. I didn't suspect that I might have been in a rut until this guitar came along. I have always wanted a Martin, and I put it off due to the cost. Looking back, I have bought several very good guitars over the years, but knowing what I know now, I would have been money ahead to buy the Martin years ago. There is truly nothing else that compares.
